Lights Turned On For Lac du Bonnet Power Service
In Lac du Bonnet, private citizens led the early push to bring electricity. Dr. Malcolm, with E V Caton and George Lewis, financed a 250 kw transformer to supply power from Manitoba Power Company. Meters were read by Hans Johnson and bills handled by Miss McCullough. The system operated until a 1927 lightning strike necessitated a new transformer. Winnipeg Electric took over, later leading to Manitoba Hydro in 1950.

Clarification of points in operation lift for farm quotas
Farmers may add crops other than cereals or oil seeds to quota base such as sugar beets onions or potatoes for wheat delivery acreage. Forage planted in 1969 with a nurse crop becomes forage acreage in 1970 for quota purposes but not for acreage payments. Oats may be used as a light cover crop but grain cannot be harvested if land is to receive payments. An insect trap from Winnipeg Agriculture Research Station promises to improve detection of stored grain pests.
