Joe Robeza 74, longtime Spring Valley resident and coal miner, died at his West Fifth street home Thursday morning after asthma struggles. Survived by widow, four sons John Anton Peter at home Felix of Beald, three daughters Mrs. Peter Vanitis La Salle Annie Chicago and Margaret Spring Valley. Funeral Friday at St. Ann's church with burial in the Lithuanian cemetery.

Fatal accident at Granville claims two
Hans Tramberg an 18 year old Granville youth is dead after a car driven by his uncle Alfred Monks collided with the locomotive of a New York Central freight train at a crossing between Mir k and Granville. Monks survived with serious internal injuries and both men had been employed in Ottawa. A coroner a jury ruled the death accidental after viewing the wreck and hearing testimony.

DIES IN CALIFORNIA FORMER PERU RESIDENT Chris Werner dies in California
The remains of Chris Werner, a former Peru resident who died in Los Angeles a week earlier, arrived in Peru and were taken to his brother Philip Werner at 2016 Tenth Street. Surviving siblings include Mrs. Henry Weisenburger of Flora Iowa and several others in Iowa Nebraska and Canada. Funeral services were held at 2 PM Thursday at the Philip Werner residence conducted by Rev. Paul Brauns.

Giant moonshine raid at De Pue uncovers vast booze haul
Deputies Simpson Conk ling and Aldrich seized the largest raid haul yet at Anton Sordych's soft drink parlor and home in De Pue. Off the premises they found 882 bottles of home brew 6 gallons of moonshine 50 gallons wine a 25 gallon still and a 25 gallon copper kettle plus several large beer barrels and cases. The raid followed a morning search of the saloon and residence revealing a hidden basement still room and a cistern barrel liquor. Sordych pleaded guilty to violating prohibitions laws in Princeton with Judge Prichard taking the case under advisement.

Raffaele Corte aged 76 a longtime Spring Valley miner died last week at the County Home after an 18 day stay. He was brought from the institution for burial in Spring Valley and deeded a small Iowa Street property to the county three weeks earlier. He had no local relatives.
