Contractor Faces Fraud Charges In Local Hearing
J B Fowler of La Salle received a preliminary hearing in Justice Koenig's court on issuing fraudulent checks. Bonds were set at $500. Fowler, a contractor who worked in Spring Valley and De Pue, said Evans instructed him to issue pay checks supposedly covered by future funds. He claims he intended to pay the two bad checks to J C Penney Co and has taken a lien on a building for Evans. He has been allowed $500 weekly for payroll. Also, Turn Hall manager Carl Ulrich and owner Egan Hotelling were fined after pleading guilty to Illinois Prohibition Act violations. Ulrich paid $200 total, Hotelling $100 plus costs.
