Starved Rock Hill Opens For Traffic July 4

Starved Rock hill in the eastern gateway to Starved Rock State Park will open July 4 after the last yard of concrete was poured. Police will monitor the hill to permit only touring cars while buses and trucks face a one week ban. The project covered cutting down the old grade and paving about 2000 feet, with entrances to the park now paved though the connecting strip remains gravel. Local effort also highlights a corn field replant in N. Naffzinger’s area, where a 190 acre field was replanted after wind damage, completed in two and a half hours with strong community cooperation and plans to resume planting across the valley.
