Clay County Farmers Win Prizes at Newton Session
Clay County in front row Martin Nelson of West Lincoln sent ten gars of Silver King Corn to the Low Corn Growers Association session at Newton Iowa January 29 to February 10. Nelson won first prize for the northern district of Iowa and Toelle earned third prize on oats for Wast Clay on Lincoln township land. The office retains the blue ribbon and the note lauds Clay county farmers and invites continued effort in the contest heat.

Tribute to a philanthropic spirit and library founder

W F Gallaher born February 22 1832 in Clearfield County Pennsylvania died February 1 1 12 near Spencer Iowa at age around 80. He moved with family to Ogle County Illinois in boyhood and later farmed near Monroe and Stewart. He served as Justice of the Peace sixteen years and married Miss Mary Louisa Rickard June 1855 with six children. He purchased 320 acres near Spencer Iowa and lived a long, faithful life in the prairie country. Funeral by Rev Thrush at Riverside cemetery followed by thanks from kin for support during bereavement.

Jasper Wayne leads work on a new Spencer hospital expected soon with twelve rooms and six patient beds. It includes an aseptic operating room, bath and toilet on the second floor, living rooms for the family, and patient lift machinery. Mrs Wayne brings ten years at Battle Creek sanitarium. two trained nurses will be on staff, one arriving this week. The building will have hot and cold water and a full-width front porch.

He joined the navy four years earlier but resigned due to ill health and died Thursday February Std JW. Funeral by Rev Thrush at home, Riverside resting place. His brother Paul, a navy recruiting officer, came from Minneapolis for the funeral. Father C G Raffensparrer could not reach from Rub Owl Nebraska.
