George Thomas Lewark born Madison County Indiana June 6 1848 died Spencer February 10 1915 after pneumonia long time resident of Spencer with two marriages leaving two sons A W and O S Lewark and a daughter by second wife Pearl Lenhart. Marion A Nichols born Germany 1889 came to America 90 years ago with Mary Tracey family settling Norway Michigan had seven children three sons survive J H Spencer Frank Norway Carl Ottawa. Funeral services held in Spencer with friends and neighbors expressing gratitude for support. interments at Meadow and Riverside cemeteries.

John Chalfant was born May 16 1841 in Zanesville Ohio. He enlisted in the Union Army at twenty joining Company I 20th Illinois Volunteer Infantry. He moved to Franklin County Nebraska, married Christiana Phillips in 1875 and fathered nine children eight of whom survived. He was discharged February 11 1915 at Gillett Grove Iowa in his seventy fourth year. The funeral was held at the Gillents Grove church with Chaplain A L Rucker and Rev R J Symons officiating.

Jacob Durst Sr was born September 2 1862 in Ennanda Switzerland and died February 7 1915 after eye surgery led to pneumonia. He married Wraulein Eleveth Aghly Mure i in 1870. six children were born, four survive with their mother. The family emigrated to America in 1903, lived in Kansas, moved to Clay county near Langdon in 1907, and he served as an official in the Swiss government era, spoke four languages, and was active in faith. Funeral services were held at the Langdon Methodist church Tuesday at 2 oclock conducted by Rev E B Griminer of the German denomination.

Death of Little Verna Welsh Four Year Old
The four year old daughter of Mr and Mrs George Welsh died of brain fever last Saturday February 13 1915 at their west Tilt street home. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon conducted by Rev O M Bond with interment at Riverside. Mr and Mrs Jonah Welsh attended from the Lake and later joined other family at Langdon and Meadow for Mrs Ora Welsh funeral. May the great comforter be with all these mourning ones.

New Bridge Project Underway by Thor Construction Company
Ernest Welden, engineer and manager of Thor Construction Company, with eight workers, arrived last week to begin a cement bridge east of the old span. Piling is in and stringers laid for the temporary bridge. work on the north end office and tour change started yesterday. Weather permitting, bridge construction will proceed promptly. The firm built a top cement bridge at Parkersburg last year and expects to build what may become Iowa's largest and most important cement bridge this year.
