Population tally shows 4022 as the result of a city poll conducted today under the direction of the Commercial Club. The survey aimed to gauge civic sentiment and inform local planning efforts.
Midweek nuptials for Miss Esther Anna Fisk and Mr Wester Gruchow were held at the Fisk country home three miles northwest of town. Rev E Grummer officiated. Best man was Harnest Reamer. bridesmaid Miss Zora Mitchell of Garner. Decorations featured green and white with smilax and white carnations. A wedding march was played by Miss Viola Stuchow. Following a bountiful dinner, the couple will reside one mile west of town and will be at home after March first, six miles west of Spencer. The News extends best wishes for a prosperous future.
Miss Elsie Lorena Bertelson wed Robert W. Yarwood of Decorah ia at the home of Mr and Mrs Chris Hertleg on East 1st street with Rev Wm Baier officiating The bride wore white shadow lace and pale blue chiffon The couple will reside in Weed California where the groom works for Weed Lumber Company Reading notes the bride's Cay county roots Spencer high school graduation and her praised character The ceremony was followed by a fine wedding breakfast The News extends best wishes for their married life
The Twentieth Century Class of the Christian Sunday School held a Valentine party last Wednesday at Mr and Mrs RF Wert on West Park Avenue. Men hosted, decorating and serving, with Valentine decor and red hearts. Guests enjoyed a pleasant evening with good eats and entertainment. Mrs Werls contributed to the hospitality. Royal Neighbor Circle visited Mrs John McClurg’s home on Sixth Street and Bander Avenue the previous Thursday afternoon for a two course luncheon. about twenty attended. Mrs McClurg and president Mrsill Gardner assisted.
Mrs. D. A. McBurney Conference President of the Home Missionary Society spoke to the Queen Esther Circle at the M. F. church. A large group of ladies attended a musical program followed by an address recounting the Syracuse meeting. Light refreshments were served.
Clerks and carriers of the Post Office and their wives held a Tuesday evening reception for retiring postmaster C Bender at T P Powell's home. Eighteen guests attended and enjoyed an elegant spread. A fine traveling outfit was gifted by office employees to Mr Bender.
Mr and Mrs Gray entertained about thirty friends at their North Main street residence Saturday evening. Decorations reflected the Valentine mood with red and white variations gracing the dining table as guests enjoyed an elegant four course dinner. The night concluded with a lively game of five hundred.
In the High School gymnasium the junior class hosted a party for the senior class on Wednesday evening. Despite the era of hard times the mood remained cheerful with refreshments available.
The Tuesday Kensington Club met in a surprise party honoring Miss Jennie Oliver whose health has limited her attendance at recent social gatherings. The gathering was held last night around nine.
The O S C circle will meet tomorrow, attended only by its members, with Mrs. O B Ross and her sister Miss Elia Little expected to join.
The Auction Bridge Club was entertained by Miss Helen Perine on Saturday afternoon in a social gathering that featured card play and light refreshments.
The Monday Club met with Mrs Marjory Blannery yesterday afternoon to discuss upcoming community events and club activities.
Recognized honor miss Myra Wood enrolled as a PDA RCA daughter of the American Revolution per family records. The distinction is rare and noted as a notable achievement from Washington. Congratulations are extended for this recognition and its significance.
