FARMERS INSTITUTE WOMAN S DAY IN SPENCER MEETING
Mrs Feit opened with a vocal solo by Miss Ellis and accompanist Miss Agnes Johnson. Rev J O Thrush offered a brief prayer. Alice Tyler urged wider circulation of books to raise literary ideals, promote library use in rural areas, and support a parcels post to ease lending costs. She noted 22 000 volumes in circulation and urged a county wide effort to build a fine Spencer library as county seat. She described library funding options and the value of education beyond classrooms. The program featured piano by Miss Anderson and a paper on The Fly by Mrs F A Squire. Friday afternoon included talks on animal husbandry, hog diseases, and library importance, with a long ciphering contest and many student performances.

Obituary Notice for Mr Cole of Liberty Township
A Sufferer Released Mr Cole who had been altered for many weeks died at his home last Wednesday. Born in Dryden New York on April 7 1854 he was the son of Joseph and Sarah Cole. He married Carrie Dennisa Sycamore twenty one years ago and six of their seven children survive. He moved to Clay County twenty years ago then to Wineis and later back to Iowa. His wife died June 6 leaving him with a large family. He remarried Eva Le Mord and had two children. He suffered a stroke in November and never recovered. Funeral services were held from the Congregational church of Liberty. He leaves a wife two stepchildren four brothers and one sister. A large number of relatives and friends attended Riverside cemetery for the final resting place of a devoted husband and father.

Felt family donation gifts statues to public library
A large crowd gathered at the library last Wednesday as six statuary pieces were presented to Spencer. Miss Anna Felt pledged enduring support and Galena, Illinois, as well as Spencer, will share in her philanthropy. The gifts include marble works by Michael Angelo, Moses and Castor and Pollux, plus Vespasian temple columns. The ceremony featured remarks by Mrs. Steele and Professor A. A. Avery, praising the city and the donors while noting efforts to preserve the statues from time's ravages.
