A. W. Greene retirees to a quiet evening but thirty neighbors crash the scene to bid Mr and Mrs Greene farewell before their westward trip. Lydia Chase and Mrs Harry Thompson organized the orderly visit and a two course luncheon followed. A Sunday School class gathered at Tarry Sunderlands home for a farewell party for Harry as he moves to Minnesota. The boys enjoyed sledding and skating before a big dinner served by Mrs R J Brown.
At Mrs Wellie Marr's home in Spencer, Gertrude O'Brien and David Simington wed quietly. Relatives attended. both have long ties to Spencer and returned to begin married life as Mr Simington works at the Cement Tile factory. They left for Seattle before settling in Spencer.
John S Reed and Miss Jessie Stoner of Peterson township wed at the Christian parsonage in this city on Wednesday afternoon. Rev Wao jBater performed the ceremony. The couple, well known in Peterson, will reside on a nearby farm. Friends extend congratulations for a long and happy life together.
Last Wednesday at the Swedish Lutheran parsonage Rev. A. B. Gusgior united Miss Trene LoIand and Mr. Barney Sampson in marriage. The groom has worked in the Ruthven vicinity for twenty years while the bride has been employed for four. They plan to reside on a farm six miles north of Ruthven after March. Neighbors praise them as pleasant to meet and extend best wishes for happiness.
Arthur Roberts of Royal and Fay Prather of Ruthven were married by Rev Bond at the M E parsonage on Saturday afternoon. They were joined by Elmer Goyette and Marie Crosser of Moneta. The couple will reside in Rembrandt where Roberts will run a creamery.
The wedding of Miss Mary Helle Flint of Langdon to Mr Amos Hethel of Dickenson County took place at Plymouth Congregational Church in Minneapolis on Wednesday January 27. The bride, daughter of G A and Mrs Flint, teaches at Langdon Sunday School and is noted as an excellent young lady. The couple will reside in Hubbard Minnesota after March 1.
One of the M. E. Sunday Sehond wide awake classes held a social and business meeting Saturday at teacher Mr. Knudsen's home. They adopted a class name motto elected officers and enjoyed an elegant supper, leaving with the feeling of the best time ever.
Members of the Senior class enjoyed a lively Tuesday evening at the F. A. Cranston home. They shed formal dignity for jovial dress and knee pants, forgetting routine to share lighthearted fun.
Harold McGrath presents Zudora a rich heiress under the care of a stern uncle while a lover named Storm awaits a solution to twenty mysteries. The piece promises dramatic suspense and runs every Monday evening alongside Hearst Current event pictures at the Fraser. The war scenes are featured with English Red Cross ambulances in procession last Monday.

The Royal Neighbor Circle will meet Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs J E McClurg corner East Sixth street and Bender Ave The Ladies Aid Society of the Congregational church meets Friday afternoon in the basement of the church
The Sir Knights and their ladies attended a Tuesday banquet served by the Eastern Stars with a grand menu and music from Johnson's orchestra. Eminent Commander A. Avery and Past Commander J. W. Cory led speeches praising the order, while readings and solos delighted guests. The evening closed with couples adjourning home, marking a memorable event with attendees from Royal and Everly.
Joint installation service joined Arrah Wanna Camp No 41an WN A and Spencer Camp No 737 M W A on Friday night. Charles Tompson of South Dickens defeated George Young The Greek Demon in a three fall match at the skating rink last Thursday. Tompson won the first fall in five minutes with a hammer lock, the second in forty five minutes with a toe hold, and the third in thirty three minutes with a toe hold. Referee Clarence Adair earned praise for fair decisions. Charles DeMar was timekeeper.
Webster City High School’s affirmative team clashed with Spencer High School’s negative in a debate last Friday evening. Team members included Anthony Scarbro Louise Swanson Marville Gilmore and Arkinp Ded Ton with Tehard Wartiman Claud Baldwin for Webster City. Spencer’s Arthur Seaton Richard Diirtiman and Claude Maldwin presented stronger arguments. Judges Tri ngipal J A McCowan Sios City High School and others ruled unanimously for the Negative, noting Spencer’s clear grasp of the subject and effective delivery.
The Declamatory Contest of Dickens and Luke Center combined was held at Dickens last Friday night. Contestants in multiple classes included Sadie Sampson and Robby Shaftoe among others, with two winners per class. A Grand Lodge session follows, with officers listed and the order to confer Past Grand and Grand Lodge degrees in Spehcer and Kaimerasburg events.
Judge Coyle fell ill forcing Judge Lee to hold short sessions in Emimersburg and Spirit Lake. In Kuck vs. Hender the verdict favored defendants and appeal was filed. Cunningham vs. Cunningham granted divorce to Mrs. Cunningham. Treleven vs. Amy Kebbel decided for defendant. Grand jury indicted J Eck and he was jailed in the county bastile. Court adjourned Saturday to meet this afternoon.

Postmaster for nearly seventeen years retires after successful tenure from a third class to second class office. He handed over duties to his successor Mart Bronson on Monday. The office expanded from two to four assistants and six rural carriers with receipts rising from about $4,000 to $10,000. Patrons praise his courtesy and fairness, while employees express high appreciation.
The Spencer Herald editor supports Bronson as postmaster, noting his experience in city duties and prior service as a manager for Mr. Wilson in Iowa. Mr Gallagher aged seventy seven died Sunday afternoon January 31 at his daughter Mrs James Hardie home after a sudden pneumonia from a cold. He had lived in Spencer two years and will be taken to Mason City to be laid by his late wife. He was known for his cheerful smile and was loved by his grandchildren.
