Thomas A. Edison predicts a coming era of prosperity for the United States as industrial growth accelerates. He cites expanding power use, manufacturing efficiency, and new technologies driving economic momentum across major cities and regions.
New York August 26 Thomas A Edison says the United States has embarked on a seven year voyage of prosperity. He cautions against overdoing it, warns of recurring hard times if extravagance continues, and urges saving money. He foresees Europe moving to republics and a continued war economy for another year with survivors seeking banking reforms.
H C Nissen northeast of Landon leads the season with a farm sale planned for Wednesday September 15. Local notices say to look for the business ad in the News next week. Various residents travel, visit, and relocate including Mrs J B Stewart moving to Spencer Iowa and Mrs Rhienhart returning home from A H Avery’s.
Mrs H H Glover hosted a one o clock luncheon for Miss Mary Garfield of Des Moines and guests of the out of town party. Floral decorations brightened the social occasion as Garfield plans a Solon Springs visit.
The Brink home was filled Sunday August 22 as Mrs. Brink’s relatives gathered including Alis Horning of Richland Iowa and Mrs. John Fagan of Sioux Rapids with Holmes brothers from Sigourney and Dent River. Neighbors and in laws joined a picnic dinner and a group photo was taken. Others visited from Sioux City Galesburg Spencer and Dallas Center while extended kin and spouses formed a cheerful thirty person crowd.
The Humboldt Poser and Light Co. propose purchasing the Spencer plant for 88000, to demolish and build a transmission line linking Thumboldt and Pornish. The plan would keep existing works running, tying to current for six years, with storage risks leaving residents without power if lines fail. A city committee will report later.
A contract last week between Grail and We OK Barber of Minneapolis reopens the Opera House. Barber leases the bulkline building, remodels it for a provisional stage and seating, and plans to host public lectures courses and meetings for the city and county, including public schools, with four weeks notice. He will relocate to Minnesota to manage the business, and Rasmussen family members will assist in operating the motion picture show as needed.
