Annual Address on the Press and Its Educative Duty
A Wisconsin printer delivers an 1867 annual address praising the newspaper press as a primary educator of the public mind. He traces the press’s rise from early American papers to Wisconsin’s growth, lauds editors as civic teachers, and argues that wide circulation multiplies influence, shaping civilization and liberty through ideas and invention.
