Illinois Supreme Court weighs child support case

A Decatur father appeals to the Illinois Supreme Court seeking to halt support for a child not biologically his. He argues a 1998 law gives a six month window to file to challenge paternity, while the state counters the window does not apply without DNA results. The case traces back to a 1993 divorce and a 1999 lawsuit requesting DNA testing to prove nonpaternity, with courts vacating custody and visitation orders once tests showed he was not the father. The mother’s attorney says the law is clear and designed to curb baseless paternity challenges.
