Partly sunny weather brings highs in the lower 80s with southerly winds at 5 to 10 mph. The Weather Authority notes that hurricane disturbances can form over land before gaining energy over the sea, revising long held views on formation.
Mostly cloudy with a shower or two today. High 70. Tonight remains rather cloudy with a shower possible. In the St Louis area clouds, some sunshine, a shower and thunderstorm possible. High 77 and low 64 with a chance of a shower tonight.
Scattered thunderstorms drenched the Plains and Mississippi Valley with Iowa seeing locally heavy rainfall. Des Moines measured 0.68 inches and Spencer 0.66 in the morning, as the system stretched from South Dakota to Texas and moved eastward into Minnesota Iowa and Missouri. Other areas reported isolated thundershowers from Arizona to Nebraska and northern California to Florida. Temperatures varied from 27 at Whitefield New Hampshire to 91 at Luke Arizona.
