20-Cent Postal Rate Blocked by Rate Commission
The Postal Rate Commission rejected the Postal Service bid to raise first class letters from 18 to 20 cents citing no justification. The service argues losses of about $500 million yearly despite past 3 cent hikes and cost pressures. The board could veto this unilaterally at its Sept. 22 meeting, a move likely to face court challenge.
