Marion near compliance with EPA on its landfill

Marion moves toward compliance with IEPA after a developmental permit for Municipal Landfill No. 4 was issued Sept 3. The city opened the site in 1980 before permitting and faced allegations of lacking a clay liner and improper testing wells. Officials say the discrepancies are resolved, but an operating permit and ongoing PC Board action remain. An IEPA tour is planned for a nearby unpermitted sand pit linked to a demolition dump.
