Americans recalled the September 11 attacks with tearful vigils and a 32 hour litany of the victims names. At ground zero the 16 acre memorial lay largely barren as four moments of silence marked the crashes and collapses.

AFACSIU leaders claim nearly 100 plagiarism cases across SIU faculty and administrators exist and should be reviewed under university policy. They say they will support Chancellor Walter Wendler if he faces punishment and allege a long term plan at Carbondale mirrors Wendler's Texas A&M strategy. Evidence was handed to the Chronicle of Higher Education after prior efforts to raise concerns with university officials.
Du Quoin officials debated halting the half cent sales tax for the school district funding demolition of old buildings as the new high school awaits state funds. Commissioner Rex Duncan urged rescinding the tax and put an ordinance on file for two weeks of public comment. a final vote is planned for Sept 25.
