TV's new Maverick fails to recapture classic charm
TV critic notes The New Maverick on ABC stars Charles Frank as Ben Maverick with James Garner as Bret. The two hour film lacks the wit of the original, with clumsy chases and plodding plot twists as Ben proves rascal, Bret debunks a gun plot, and Vinnie leads a Bronx flavored heist amid lingering hopes ABC will refine the series in upcoming scripts.
