Chavez to lobby Illinois farmers for farm worker rights
Cesar Chavez announced at the new United Farm Workers service center in Onarga that the union will lobby Illinois for collective bargaining rights for farm workers. He cited hours and working conditions as key issues and noted about 10,000 migrant workers pass through the state yearly. The long term goal is contracts with firms including four nurseries, but challenges such as poverty and language barriers must be addressed first.
