RLC talks inch toward settlement in wage dispute

Mediation at Rend Lake College produced no agreement on wages and benefits after over six hours with a federal mediator. The union seeks 6.49 percent raises and 130 dollars per employee for health benefits, while the board offers 3.11 percent and 60 dollars. The zipper clause language was dropped from the talks, leaving wages and benefits as the main hurdles. The next mediation is set for December 2 as both sides remain far apart but hopeful.
