Rend Lake College enrollment up 7.5 percent for fall
Rend Lake College reports a 7.5 percent rise in fall enrollment with credit hours up 7.9 percent from 24,665 to 26,611. Full-time students grow 4.6 percent to 1,468 while part-time students rise 11.3 percent to 1,487. President Mark Kern cites recruitment, district unemployment, and marketing efforts as causes. The board approves a 2002 tax levy of 3.45 million, up 2.65 percent from 3.37 million.

Open swim at LIFE Center in Carbondale Wednesday
The LIFE Community Center indoor pool in Carbondale will host open swim from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesday as District 95 conducts a teacher workshop and dismisses students early.
