Crab Orchard boards seeks crossing zone redesignation
The Crab Orchard Unit 3 school board asks the Illinois Department of Transportation to classify several Illinois 13 crossing areas as serious safety hazards to boost bus transportation reimbursements. If approved, funds currently deducted from the district's transportation allocation would be freed as students living under one and a half miles from school are bused. The board also approved a $2,867 purchase of a color video recorder camera and monitor from Goss Appliance in Marion for the instructional material center and moved $10,000 from November state aid reimbursement to the transportation fund. Next month's meeting was moved to the second Monday to allow canvassing votes.
