Marion hikers face higher sewer charges as city adopts rate hike

Marion residents will see a minimum sewer and water bill rise to 18.70 monthly for households using under 2,000 gallons, while users above 2,000 gallons face a 5.70 increase. About 5,000 customers exceed the minimum usage. Mayor Butler backed a slimmer rise and approved a 25 cent bump in the home rule sales tax to fund sewer plant loan repayment. The tax targets food, clothing, and other town purchases. Butler did not specify when the increases take effect.
