Grain futures on the Chicago Board of Trade declined while soybeans advanced after the USDA estimated the U S soybean crop at 2.65 billion bushels, down 2 million from September. December wheat eased to 3.65 4, corn dipped to 2.46, oats fell to 1.95, and November soybeans rose to 5.28 per bushel.
New York AP reported stocks jumped as General Electric posted a 25 percent earnings gain and IBM received a brokerage upgrade. The Dow rose 316.34 points to 7,850.29, the Nasdaq advanced 47.10, and the S&P climbed 31.40, marking first weekly gains in seven weeks. GE kept projections on track despite economic headwinds.
