Police citation issued after Jefferson County accident
Illinois State Police cited Harold Schuler for failure to slow to avoid an accident after a Thursday morning collision on Illinois 37 near Bakerville Road. Ronnie Mount of Mount Vernon had minor injuries. both cars suffered major damage.

SIUC Hosts Family Weekend Near Campus Activities
SIUC in Carbondale hosts Family Weekend as students and families join events planned by the Student Programming Council and the Parents Association. About 500 register yearly with packed hotels. activities include arts and crafts, a dinner buffet, bowling, and boating on the campus lake. The Lilleeng family from Fox Lake won the “Family of the Weekend” contest with trivia answers and will receive prizes. Bill Strauther, a freshman in aviation, is part of the family.
