Illinois ends conservation tillage payments to farmers

Illinois ends subsidies for non plow or light plow farming intended to reduce erosion. Agriculture officials hope continued use of conservation tillage will bring soil protection benefits. About 860 farmers received roughly 450000 dollars this year under the program before it was cut in the new budget. The loss of funding is seen as an enticement to soil care.
