Stockyards Springfield AP reports hog market down. barrows and gilts mostly 1.00 lower with varying live weight ranges. Illinois direct hogs negotiated at 23,166 head. under 500 lbf mostly 1.00 lower, over 500 Ibs weak, demand light for moderate to heavy run. Boars 25.00-29.00 under 300 Ibs and 18.00-22.00 over 300 Ibs.
In Chicago trading on the Board of Trade soybeans weakened as demand prospects dim with U S Chinese talks ongoing. Wheat led gains on a technical rally aided by possible new export deals, while corn rose on wheat strength and Midwest weather slowed harvest. December wheat 2.79, December corn 2.14, oats 1.77, November soybeans 4.48.
Dow Jones at 9240.86 up 188.42 points with high 9252.90 and low 9000.14. S&P 500 at 1080.99 up 24.24, Nasdaq 1626.26 up 56.07, NYSE composite 559.87 up 11.24. Volume totals show 1.57 billion consolidated, 3,320 issues traded, 2261 higher, 878 lower, 181 unchanged.
Mark Roe, owner of Hart's Pharmacy in Murphysboro, topped online bidding for a 20 foot Crownline Bowrider at 28 100 to benefit the American Red Cross relief effort for terrorism victims. Crownline will donate Roe's bid to charity with Prestige Trailers and Mercury Marine contributing support. Rend Lake Marina will deliver the boat to Roe.
Bank of Marion invites customers to events today and Friday at Carbon Street and Tower Square Plaza locations. Manager Matt Lee says it is the first time the bank has held appreciation days with free snacks at each branch. Participants can enjoy hot dogs chips soda and candy.
Murphy Wall State Bank and Trust in Pinckneyville will host its second annual Customer Appreciation Day on October 19. A cookout will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, soda and cake offered to attendees. Christi Mathis.
