A string of tornadoes lashed western Oklahoma and central Nebraska, damaging more than 100 homes in Cordell, leaving hundreds without power, and prompting evacuation and boil-water advisories. Six tornadoes hit Nebraska as Oklahoma deployed 189 National Guard troops and Governor Keating declared a state disaster. Local officials described severe destruction and miraculous survivals.
