Jeff Morris drove in three runs with two hits including a triple as Kaskaskia swept John A. Logan 8 7 and 3 2 to claim the Southern Illinois Collegiate Conference baseball championship in Carterville Allan Lake pitched a full game for Kaskaskia while Steve Cunningham took the loss for Logan Randy Potts drove in the winning run in game one and Danny Wilson earned the win in relief for Kaskaskia Logan finished 11 5 in conference play and Kaskaskia 12 4 with two run output from Brent Logeman and Steve Cunningham

SIU women finish fifth in invitational
The University of Minnesota team swept the top spots as four Gopher runners placed in the top eight to win the Saluki Invitational at Midland Hills Golf Course. SIU Carbondale finished fifth led by Patty Plymire Houseworth with a career best 19:07 for seventh place behind Minnesota’s Wendy Van Mierlo who won in 18:20.9. Houseworth, from St Joseph, edged the field early but was passed by three Minnesotans midrace.
