The Herrin Teen Town opens Friday evenings from seven to ten thirty. West Frankfort Youth Center hosts Friday and Saturday sessions from seven thirty to ten p.m. for local youths.
Carbondale High School Music Boosters will host a Cider and Doughnut Day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Turley Park with hot and cold cider, doughnuts, and apples. Eighty eight students from Union Johnson Pulaski Massac and Alexander counties were chosen by their high schools, announced by regional superintendent Jerry Johnson, to join a workshop and perform at a teacher institute with guest conductor Michael Hanes of Southern Illinois University Carbondale.
The Southern Illinois Builders Association invites applicants for four year construction or civil engineering degrees with AGC Education and Research Foundation grants up to 6000 dollars. Area 4 H clubs mark National 4 H Week with displays at University Mall Carbondale and demonstrations across topics such as animal projects art gardening and cooking. The event features hourly demonstrations and project information booths while Perry Perry and Jackson counties plan contests floats and displays.
Carterville High School plans a 1981 Homecoming starting with the coronation of a queen at 8 p.m. Thursday. Activities include a skit show, class contest, and pep session at 10:15 a.m. Friday, a 2 p.m. Friday parade, a 7 p.m. football game against the Lesser-Walier Red Devils, and a dance from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. in the gym.
FFA reporter Eric Morris attended the 1981 Section 25 reporters workshop held September 22 at Rend Lake College in Ina. State FFA Reporter David Stille and State FFA Executive Secretary John Fedderson discussed correct methods of presenting FFA material to the public.
