Readers Protest Campaign Tactics At Gun Event
A letter criticizes a National Hunting and Fishing Days booth for pressuring attendees to read campaign material about gubernatorial candidates and endorsing Rod Blagojevich. The writer urges keeping sporting events free of political propaganda on state property. A second letter urges restoration of Medicaid funds for Illinois nursing homes to protect elder care and caregiver resources. A third letter complains South Market Street Road is unsafe with narrow lanes, gravel edges, dangerous intersections, and a fatal-accident pattern, calling for action and accountability.

Torricelli's Fall From Grace Ends NJ Senate Bid
In January 2001 U.S. Attorney Mary Jo White decided not to prosecute Sen. Robert Torricelli for bribery. The Senate Ethics Committee admonished him for accepting $53,700 in gifts from David Chang, and Torricelli eventually quit the race as Douglas Forrester closed the polling gap. Democrats rallied around Torricelli, but voters digested the ethics findings, leading to his resignation before the election.
