East Main Street in Carbondale will close at the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad crossing downtown for two weeks starting 8 a.m. Monday to rebuild the crossing with prefabricated rubber slabs. Detours via Washington Oak and University. marked routes. Joint project of ICG Illinois DOT and FHWA.
After a 2.5 month delay, SIU Carbondale proceeds with a $3 million pollution control project. Paragon Mechanical Contractors won the general bid at 2.682 million and Sullivan Electric won the electrical bid at 311,900. Demolition of a lean-to begins next week, with electrostatic precipitators to remove fly ash and meet Illinois standards. Testing planned in fall, with system ready for spring test.
The 160 member Marching Salukis of Southern Illinois University Carbondale will perform at Busch Stadium in St. Louis during the Cardinals Cowboys game. Director Mike Hanes notes the band’s version of the national anthem and a Marx Brothers themed halftime show with new Casio keyboard and Peavey amp. A campus preview is set for Saturday at McAndrew Stadium for Parents Day with O’Fallon High School Band joining.
