Carterville eyes building new high school in future plan

Carterville Community School District officials led by Superintendent Tim Bleyer discuss replacing Carterville High School built in 1924. They estimate a new facility at about 18 million dollars, with 12 million from the Capital Development Board and bonds to cover the rest, contingent on voter approval and potential 2003 spring ballot. The plan aims for a 2004 or 2005 completion if funds and bonds pass.

Fire hits White Rabbit in Pinckneyville ruins the two building complex

Firefighters returned to the historic two building complex that housed the White Rabbit crafts and antiques store in Pinckneyville where the north building containing antiques was destroyed and the south building heavily damaged. Townspeople and booth renters surveyed the scene, fearing the loss of a long standing local business. Fire Chief Jerry Smith warned of potential collapses due to widespread water damage and delayed entry for safety checks. Residents reflected on insurance gaps and the uncertain future as they mourned a community fixture and hoped for a path to rebuild or relocate.
