Black Friday shoppers swarm stores nationwide at dawn
Crowds form long lines outside Wal Mart Target and Kohl's as Black Friday kicks off the holiday shopping season. In Carbondale and Herrin, shoppers start as early as 3 a.m. with deals drawing families and gift purchases despite cold morning weather. Jeff Fish of Herrin notes he'd rather be at home while juggling shopping bags and a Christmas tree from Marion Target.

Fred's Dance Barn to close after 40 years in Carterville
Carterville's Fred's Dance Barn will permanently close on December 9 after four decades as the area's bring-your-own-bottle country music venue. Owner Barrett Rochman plans to sell the property to the Carterville school district to fund expansion of the high school, with negative media attention from a January shooting cited as a major factor.

Edmonston Arrested in Wisconsin for Stabbing Case
Randall Edmonston, 33, sought in a Raccoon Valley Trailer Park stabbing, was arrested early Friday in Caledonia, Wisconsin. He faces felonies including solicitation of murder, home invasion, and aggravated domestic battery. His 26 year old girlfriend was stabbed and treated. their 18 month old daughter, recovered, is in state care. The arrest was without incident.
