Weatherman Records Subzero Dip Across Southern Illinois

The mercury fell to minus one half degree in Carbondale Friday night and roads remain icy with snow today across Southern Illinois. Harold Hill notes it was the coldest he recalls, while by 7 am today the temp rose to four above zero. Officials expect areas south of route 13 to be clear for normal traffic by Monday if no new precipitation occurs. The region, hardest hit since Thanksgiving, saw Anna area snow totals around five inches with about three and a half inches in Carbondale.
