U.S. stocks finished a lackluster session mixed as investors took profits ahead of Memorial Day. Despite strong consumer spending and earnings, the Dow fell 16.75 to 10188.45 while weekly results remained solid: Dow up 2.2 percent, S&P up 2.5 percent, Nasdaq up 3.9 percent.
Eastern Cornbelt carcass values declined across classes with cut sizes from 0.5 to 0.9 inch bf posting lower ranges. Illinois direct hog purchases totaled 12,859 with prices trending steady to weak as demand remained light. Boar quotes ranged 38.00 to 12.00 per hundredweight by weight class.
In Chicago, soybean futures declined on Friday while wheat also fell and corn advanced. Wheat for July delivery slipped 7.5 cents to 3.62 dollars a bushel, July corn rose 5 cents to 3.04 dollars, July oats gained 1/4 cent to 1.47 dollars, and July soybeans dropped 8 cents to 8.14 dollars a bushel.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average closes at 10,188.45, up 16.75 points after fluctuating between 10,172.77 and 10,216.63. The Standard & Poor’s 500 slides to 1,120.68, down 0.60, while the NYSE index declines to 6,484.72, down 7.58.
