The Catholic Diocese of Belleville marks International Year of Disabled Persons June 21 at St Augustine of Canterbury Belleville with mass and picnic registration with Rev Gene Neff. Reverend Susan Kathy Cox named to New Athens Freeburg United Methodist Churches beginning June 14. Evangelists Mikeal and Gwen Starrick hold revival services at Friendly Church of God Johnston City through June 7. A robe dedication ceremony by Shaffer Chapel AME Colp youth choir is scheduled 3 p m Sunday with Presiding Elder Ivan J. Johnson and guest choirs from Carbondale Carbonale and Murphysboro. Local talent will be featured and refreshments follow.
Under ecumenical guidance a U S Catholic bishop will process applications from married former Episcopal clergy to become Roman Catholic priests while allowing continued marital status and some Episcopal worship elements. Bishop Bernard F Law of Springfield Cape Girardeau says the move aims at ecumenical sensitivity and is handled case by case. The Vatican authorization of last year permits retaining certain Episcopal worship marks, with no change in reunion efforts.
