AP reports Thursday activity on NYSE listed shares with highs, lows, and closes for many names including AES, AMR, AOL, ATT, Exxon, Boeing, Coca Cola, IBM, Microsoft, Pfizer, GM, Intel, and others. Market moves show varied gains and declines across sectors.

The Labor Department said new unemployment insurance claims rose by 7,000 to 428,000 for the week ending May 17. The increase followed tornado damage that forced some businesses to shut, marking the highest level in two weeks and topping economists’ 420,000 forecast.
In Chicago futures trading, wheat and soybean prices fell sharply as weekly export sales slumped 55 percent from the prior week and 52 percent below the four week average. Corn also declined modestly while favorable spring wheat planting weather pressured prices further.
Trade notes mediocre export sales and dry mild weather in the Midwest. Analysts say conditions could push spring planting toward completion by early next week. Wheat for July delivery drops to 3.25 1/2, July corn to 2.43 3/4, July oats to 1.48 1/2, and July soybeans to 6.26 3/4 a bushel.
Eastern Cornbelt carcass prices closed steady at Stockyards Springfield with steer and heifer values by fat thickness. Prices ranged 57.58 to 67.93 for 0.5 inch, 57.25 to 66.84 for 0.6 inch, 55.75 to 65.88 for 0.7 and 0.8 inch, and 53.25 to 63.59 for 0.9 inch bf. Sows priced by weight from 24.00 to 30.00, Boars from 5.00 to 28.00 depending on weight.
Freddie Mac reports 30 year fixed rates fell to 5.34 percent this week the lowest since 1971 and a record weekly low. Economists note the rate is the fourth decade low and that mortgage rates are fueling home sales amid a sluggish economy. The 15 year fixed rate slipped to 4.73 percent, a new low since 1991.
