NAACP Probes Vernon School Dismissal in Sparta
An NAACP team met Sparta Community Consolidated School board over the firing of non tenured Negro teacher Mrs Charles Kimbrough amid protests by Vernon School parents. Investigators outlined four core complaints linking her dismissal to differences with Principal Gilbert Holmes and calls for better facilities, while officials denied plans to close Vernon for segregation. The board will review findings and may transfer staff to Lincoln School as part of potential reorganization. A revived chapter election for the Sparta NAACP chapter is set for Saturday at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church.
