Illinois farmland ownership bill fails in House
The Illinois House rejected the foreign and corporate ownership curb on farmland by 11 votes, with sponsors planning to amend the bill to drop the corporate aspect and bring it back next week. The measure would ban nonresident aliens and limit trusts and corporations with over 35 shareholders from farmland acquisition unless converted to nonagricultural use within 10 years.

Senate approves funds for SIU and other state universities
The Illinois Senate approved 56-0 the SIU budget of 127.8 million for the next fiscal year, sending it to the House. The University of Illinois requested 238 million, approved 540. Other actions included 315,000 to buy the Broadway Hotel for SIU Edwardsville and a 25,000 transfer to East St. Louis CC from general revenue.
