Trico district to borrow funds as reserves run dry
Trico School District plans up to 650000 in tax anticipation warrants for the education fund and 125000 for the building fund to cover payroll and operations as reserves dwindle due to coal mine closures, reduced state aid, and rising costs. Funds will come from First National Bank of Ava and Steeleville at 1.85 percent interest, repaid from later tax revenues. The district has cut elementary staff and suspended pay raises, with contracts up for negotiation this summer.
