Court City must hire black firefighters in Chicago ruling
A federal appeals court ordered Chicago to hire all African American applicants who passed the 1995 firefighters entrance exam and to compensate thousands who also passed. The decision lowers the required hires to 111 and could yield about 30 million dollars in back pay, with eligibility spread among 6,000 claimants.
