The Carbondale NAACP presents a Brown v Board Film Festival at SIUC Student Center Auditorium this Saturday starting 3 p.m. with films The Road to Brown, A Case for Equality, In Pursuit of Freedom and Brown v Board, Ruby Bridges and Separate But Equal. A Sunday Brown 50 Anniversary Program at the Carbondale Civic Center features readers theater, local music, a panel on Generational Effects and historian Pat Mayberry.
Jeremy Fruits a 17 year old from Elkville was rescued after his Honda Civic collided with a Continental Waste Industries garbage truck on U S 51 south of Landfill Road in De Soto. He crossed the centerline and was extricated after over an hour. He was transported to Carbondale Memorial Hospital for treatment.
