Murphysboro City Council swore in two new members Sandra Bullar and Mike Bastien joining reelected Vicki Ardrey Frankie Edwards and Gene Gray. Budget deficit estimated at 250000 prompts focus as new term begins with June meeting. City officers retained include City Attorney Pat McCann Police Chief Jeff Bock and Fire Chief Kevin Reeves. Carbondale approves 3 percent raise for city manager Doherty
Carbondale City Manager Jeff Doherty received a two year contract renewal through April 10 2005 and a 3 percent pay raise matching recent city employee increases after a closed performance review by a largely new council. Doherty who turns 50 this week has led since 1992 and helped oversee Civic Center development the 150 acre Superblock project University Mall growth Mill Street Underpass and other city initiatives. Mayor Brad Cole said the meeting was routine and no major changes are expected until new council members acclimate.
