Marion Carnegie Library seeks independence from city

The Marion Carnegie Library's board plans to petition Williamson County circuit court to form a library district within Marion Community Unit 2's boundaries. They say district status would raise independence and tax base from about 65 million to 123 million, though Mayor Butler opposes new tax bodies and warns taxes would rise. Novick defends the bid as long overdue and aims to improve services with broader funding. The plan includes a public selling of increased costs per 100 assessed valuation.
