Steak Dinner Dispute At Orient 4 Mine May End Monday
A company union clash at Orient 4 mine east of Johnston City, sparked by a steak dinner given to 12 workers, could be settled Monday as miners are urged to return to work once the mine resumes operations. Chester Gossett, local union president, says bonuses are banned by the contract and the walkout continues despite company needs to fulfill contracts. Frank Nugent of Freeman Coal Mining Corp says the shutdown was to source coal for contract customers. The union denies demanding a no-dinner pledge before resuming talks.
