State mulls switch to self insured state employee health plan
Springfield CMS officials testified to a House committee that moving from a fully insured plan to self insurance could yield double digit savings. About 60 percent of 350 000 participants are already in self insured arrangements and critics warn of coverage cuts and reduced access for downstate Illinois residents. The plan would require EF Commission approval and a rebid of the health insurance contract after controversy over Health Alliance and United Health Care.
