Miners Health Plan Tangles With Unaccredited Hospitals
The United Mine Workers health plan may drop reimbursement for care at four Southern Illinois hospitals not accredited by the Joint Commission. Herrin and Union in West Frankfort along with Pearce and Farrell in Eldorado lack accreditation, risking coverage for UMW pensioners and working miners. Hospitals seek a grace period while administrators warn of financial impact as private insurers step in.
