Bridge spans wrecked by truck fire replaced amid rush to reopen I 95

Crews demolished the sagging southbound span of Interstate 95 at Bridgeport after a tanker truck fire and began installing a temporary bridge from New Jersey. Northbound lanes could reopen in three to four days with hopes to restore southbound traffic next weekend. Officials expect full repairs to take up to a year and a half, but overtime work aims to finish faster on this highly trafficked corridor between New York and Boston.

Emergency funds to reopen damaged highway span

The highway sagged after a tanker truck carrying heating oil crashed causing a fire. Gov. John G. Rowland said the state will receive 11.2 million dollars in emergency federal funding to help reopen the highway. Workers reinforce supports for the northbound span while the rest is replaced and plans call for moving and raising sections during the weekend and next week.

Receipt links Nichols to alias Havens in 1994 fertilizer buys

Prosecutors say a co op manager could not identify Terry Nichols as the man who bought ammonium nitrate fertilizer in September and October 1994. The buyer used the alias Mike Havens, the same name found on a receipt in Nichols' Kansas home after the Oklahoma City bombing. The testimony notes the fertilizer was loaded into a red trailer on a blue pickup, and prosecutors pursue the death penalty in 161 state first degree murder charges related to the 1995 attack.
