Police report wide range of incidents across region
Herrin police arrested Bulmaro Ramirez and Rodrigo Perez Santos after a suspected drunk driver endangered motorists on Herrin Road. Ramirez faced DUI and multiple charges while Santos was cited for belt and illegal alcohol transport and held by federal authorities. Separate events include a Marion woman cited for drug paraphernalia, a stolen U Haul recovered in Carbondale, a two vehicle crash injuring three near Chester, and a Pinckneyville fire at a wood trailer.

Students learn about dental hygiene in pilot program
Thirty five Frankfort Intermediate School students and staff toured SIU Carbondale for a full day of dental health instruction. The group received exams, cleanings, sealants, mouth guards and take home tips on reducing sugar intake and avoiding tobacco.

The Illinois Sheriffs Association sponsors the Illinois Teenage Institute on Substance Abuse in Decatur at Millikin University July 25 29. Open to freshmen sophomores and juniors aged 14 to 17 with passing grades who will commit to the full program and act as youth leaders. 80 statewide scholarships on a first come first served basis cover tuition lodging a T shirt photos workshop materials and meals.
