Watkins Celebrate 70th Anniversary in Jonesboro
Mr and Mrs James Watkins of Jonesboro mark 70 years since their 1938 marriage in Jackson Missouri. Mary Belle was a housewife and factory worker. Jim served 39 years in the Union County Highway Department. They have three children six grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Cards and letters are welcome, no gifts.

The Mabry family evacuated as floodwaters covered their yard and entered their home. A dog pen twelve feet tall was submerged while the couple used a tetanus clinic and Red Cross relief at West Frankfort Fire Department to obtain cleaning supplies. Dozens collected mops, bleach, gloves, and buckets as responders assessed local needs.
